How to: A headband from an old shirt

I love recycling my old clothes as much as I can. I hate to throw something out if I can use it for something else. This might be another reason that I'm pretty sure I will grow up to be on Hoarders one day. Anyway...I was cleaning out my closet, and I found this old pink shirt. It was definitely from my "post-partum" era and would no longer fit anyone on earth who wasn't shaped like a lactating potato. But I love the color. Instead of tossing it into the "donate" bag, I decided to cut it up and do something with it.

First of all, (well, after you remove the bottom portion of your shirt to save for a later project.) cut the sleeve free from the shoulder.

Then I cut two diagonal strips from the sleeve. This was a 3/4 sleeve shirt, so there wasn't a whole lot to work with.

Then I gently stretched the loops that I had cut so that they rolled a bit. Most t-shirt material will roll when you stretch it, plus it doesn't really fray. No-sew FTW!

Next, I laid the loops over each other.

Somehow, I managed to make it so the two loops were connected. I'm still not sure what I did, to be honest.  It was kinda like when you looped jelly bracelets together as a kid. I have tried a couple of times and still not made it do what I did here...mystery knot!

Pull your mystery knot tight. If you are lucky, like I was, you somehow figured this out AND managed to get the seams inside this mystery knot.

Last, but not least, fit it to your head and tie it tight. And when I say tight, I mean tight. T-shirt material is stretchy. You don't want this falling off your head later in the day. This headband is not only adorable on five-year-olds, but it is dead handy for keeping your hair back while you put on make-up. Or give yourself a facial. Or scrub your bathroom floor...it's a real multi-tasker.

my fabulous model. She works cheaply.

Look at her eyelashes? How is that fair?

hooray, mystery knot.
