Fandom Cosmetics: The Friends Collection

promotional samples

What is better than Christmas? That's right, nail polish! What is better than regular nail polish? Right again, new nail polish! Gosh, you guys are smart. Today, I have the swatches for Fandom Cosmetics newest collection: The Friends Collection!

This brand is definitely not new, but it is new to me. I love when I can try a new (to me) brand. I feel like it is my mission in life to try every brand ever...otherwise how can I truly have an opinion?! The husband is completely against this, btw...thankfully he is not a creative contributor to the blog.

This collection is based on the Friends tv show from the 90s. Now, you know I was a teenager in the 90s...so I remember when this show was the shit. You couldn't turn around without seeing one of the stars on a magazine cover or talk show. I had more than four friends who had versions of The Rachel...even one who DIY'd it with hilarious results. The nostalgia is strong with this post, y'all.

I Know!
A lovely periwinkle hex glitter topper with iridescent circles and triangles. There is something about this particular shade that I can't get enough of. So few brands do it, and even fewer do it well.  This topper is lovely. It lays smoothly and requires minimal-to-no dabbing to get the circles in their spots. I used two coats (over Smelly Cat) below, and I love the way the glitter layers. I see a jelly sammich in my future.

Princess Consuela Banana Hammock
This is the happiest yellow I own. Seriously. It is bright and happy, and the turquoise tiny hexes and circles float wonderfully in a very lemony jelly base. I needed three coats, but I think that might just be my crazy brain because two coats looked just the same. Incidentally, I was watching The Simpsons while I swatched this color...which kinda weirded me out when Thing #1 said "Mommy your nails look like Marge!"

Its Sunday. I Don't Move on Sundays
A super-luminous cherry red jelly packed with hexes of all colors. It is definitely a great color for 2015. I used three coats here, and I love how squishy it all looks. I would recommend nude undies for this one, as I had a bit of pink staining afterwards. (It went really well with the orange stain that was already there. I am slowly tie-dyeing my nails.) I would also like to try layering this one over a few other colors as well. It doesn't get streaky or weird at one coat like some jellies do. I do love a good multitasker.

How You Doin'?
Ugh, why didn't I have this at Halloween!? It would have been perfect! It is a pearly graphite base with red and blue microglitters. It reminds me of city lights off in the distance. I used three coats, and there were no brush strokes to be seen...which is a worry with shimmery bases. I am kinda curious to see how this would behave in a gradient.

We Were On a Break!
The perfect green. I hinted at this one in my ILNP teaser picture of Facebook...I just couldn't ear to remove this polish. It is a blackened green pearl with a billion (I counted) shades of green microglitters. I used three coats...but I don't think I need more than two next time. I wish I had tried this with a matte coat, I bet it would be amazing.

Smelly Cat
I love gray. LOVE. It is my jam for 2014/2015. I want to wear it everyday, and often will chose something charcoal over black (INORITE) when it comes to clothes. This one is a warmish medium gray jelly/cream with pink and teal glitters. I used three coats here, but again...two would be good for normal wear. Did I mention I love gray?

Unagi!
Woooo glitter! This one is a super dense springy collection of glitters in a clear base. When I say dense, I mean it. I used one coat below. I love how there are a few iridescent bits floating about in there, it gives it a subtle kick as you move your fingers.

Oh...My...God!
This one surprised me. I am normally not a "large glitter" sort of chick...but I actually liked this one. The base is a touch thin, but for glitters of this size it needs to be. I had no trouble with the diamonds sticking to each other, and the little white shreds and canary-yellow circles spread themselves out nicely. I also see a lot of potential for variation here. You can either slap on a single coat, layer a few, or do some hand-placement if you are nuts.

I Got Off The Plane
Another jumbo-ish glitter topper. There are white hexes and triangles, black hexes and diamonds, and pink hearts. I used one thickish coat in the swiped fingers (index and pinky) and did some insane things hand placement on the middle and ring. I was worried because the base is tinted, but it didn't bother the color of my manicure at all.

Pivot! Pivot! Pivot!
Frost goodness, here. This is less a glitter/shimmer top coat and more of a transformative topper. It is also another I wish I had layered over more colors and tried matte. It applies smoothly, and without too many strokes. I love how deeply teal the hexes are, and I want to pick them all out and cover my fingers in them...but I wont because that really is nuts. I threw one thick-ish coat over black and white...and I actually don't hate it over the black. I wonder what this will look like matte...

And that is all she wrote! Were you a big fan of Friends back in the day? Looking at these polishes makes me wonder if I missed out on something by not watching it...maybe I'll give it a try as an adult? I do find that a lot of shows I thought I was too cool for as a teenager I am actually enjoying as an adult. Growing up sucks. You either admit you were lame, or that you are lame.

This collection is available tomorrow on Fandom Cosmetics!  Which ones are your favorites? I am really torn between a few of these, so I don't think I can actually pick a favorite. Maybe Princess Consuela Banana Hammock? Ugh, but then How You Doin'?...I can't decide.

  2. Uh oh I see at least 6 that need to join my collection! It has almost been a year since I bought from them so it's about time! I blame their calendar of sales last Nov-Dec and then the OTP collection at the beginning of this year lol. FC is my first indie love, I bought them even before I stopped biting my nails! So as I said before it's amazing to finally see them talked about and on one of my favorite blogs no less! Love your swatches!
