Ipsy Bag March 2014

Ipsy arrived this month without incident. Hooray for that. It even arrived exactly when expected, so I'm doubly happy. (there may have been some snark from the husband. Not a big ipsy fan, that one.) When my "glam room" went live, I wasn't overly thrilled. Sparkly primer, questionable eyeshadow, textured polish, and lipstick. Hmm.

I am happy to announce, I was mostly pleased with my bag this month. Even though the bag is a little loud, even for me.

The Goodies

Be A Bombshell Bora Bora eyeshadow quad

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie lipstick in Get Ready

Roughles. Ugh.

My Thoughts:

Bora Bora Quad:
Holy shit, guys. I have never been so glad to be wrong (when it comes to makeup) in my life. I saw this on my glamroom this month, and I admit I sighed in sadness and resignation. Its gonna be shitty pigmentation and wacky colors, I thought. I decided that it would be tossed into my swap pile upon arrival. I didn't even bother searching out swatches of it, I was so unenthused. But when I got it, and swatched it without primer...wow. It was smooth and soft, but richly pigmented. The teal isn't as bright as I'd hoped, but it does have a subtle duochrome that I really love. I don't know it I'd pay the full $16 for it, but it is pretty damned sweet.

Pixi Primer:
Ok. Guys. I'm no spring chicken anymore. I'm starting to see fine lines, pores, etc. A shimmery primer is maybe not the best choice for my skin. And this stuff is shiny. Under makeup, it isn't so bad. I can see using this only on my cheeks for a subtle shimmer. It also performs fairly well, as far as holding my makeup in place goes. I like that it didn't sink into my pores making me look like a sparkly, polka dotted discoball. But...it didn't play well with my Cerave moisturizer. I had some serious pilling around my nose. Add to that the fact that my freshly waxed face is still texturally a little off...and this stuff grabbed right to that...causing my foundation to do the same. Ugh. I would call this a pass. I will probably use the tube, just for subtle highlighting since the peachy-gold sheen is nice, but I wouldn't buy it.

Marvelous Moxie Lipstick:
This stuff is great. I'm a long-time Bare Minerals fan, so I might be biased. This stuff is creamy, comfortable, and long wearing. I woke up the next morning with a faint pink tinge to my lips. The color I got, Get Ready, is a lovely warm pink that is probably pretty flattering on most people. The only thing I don't like is the price. Its $18 for a full sized tube. I would call this about equal to MAC lipstick, which is $15. But...it is better than Urban Decay Revolution (in terms of comfort. The colors aren't as wild) which retails for $22. I recommend this stuff definitely, the price just bugs me.

Roughles:
Ugh. Guys...I'm so over textures. I can deal with Pixie Dusts, as they have glitter which makes them sparkly and fun with or without top coat. But these...no. The robins egg blue is a nice color, but the darker bits of texture just struck me as weird and made me want to pick them out. My husband literally said "ew" when he saw the polish on. He thinks is looks like wall texture spray, and I absolutely agree with him. I can't recommend this stuff. (and at the time of writing, my bottle has already been sold to a new, loving home.)

And now, my Ipsy face!

products used (other than the Ipsy stuff):
Urban Decay Naked Skin foundation in 01
Milani Blush in Luminoso
Starlooks Kohl liner in black
Maybelline Clump Crusher + The Rocket mascara

Oh, and if you want...here is my Ipsy referral link. :D

  1. When I saw that some people were getting that polish, all I could think was....I really hope I don't get that ugly polish lol I'm slightly jealous you got that shadow quad....I got a NYX trio of neutrals which isn't necessarily a bad thing...I just have soooo many neutrals already. I also got a liquid liner pen in a gorgeous royal blue. Also got the lipstick and primer. I enjoy the primer under my powder foundation....it helps to even out my slight rosacea but, can make me look orange if I put too much on. It was my first Ipsy bag so, I was pleasantly surprised that I liked most of what was in there.

    1. I am not happy about that polish. Ugh...complete fail. I am glad I didn't get that eyeshadow quad, because I picked one up a month before at target (hell yeah clearance!) I do wish I got that pen, it looks amazing!

  2. I love the look you created!

I received the blue eyeliner pen, and it is the best liquid liner I have ever used! I would have preferred the quad you received. I got a neutral NYX trio that had subpar pigmentation.

  3. thank you! <3 I do get "referral points" if you sign up using my link. I can save those points for "gifts" from ipsy. Its a pretty neat service for $10 a month. There are some serious misses, but for the most part, it's pretty fun.
