Birthday Fun: DIY Jelly and Flakies

A wonderful friend of mine sent me a nice package for my birthday. Among the shiny things in there were a bottle of NYC Plaza Plumberry and a bottle of Fresh Paint Sugar Crush. Now that I had a spare of Plaza Plumberry (which is a great budget vamp color) I could finally make a jelly version...which of course necessitated a jelly sandwich with the flakies.

I think I made it a bit too sheer, because I used four coats of the DIY jelly (two below and two above) and it wasn't quite as opaque as I'd have liked. I also used a Wet'n'Wild clear, which I will never do again. That damned brush is so thin and stiff, if dragged every layer. If you look at the above photo, you can see that the middle of my nails is more sheer than the base or the tips. Boooo. I've still got tons of the vampy color, so I might re-do this one.

Regardless of what Amanda says, I think that Sugar Crush is a perfect dupe of Shine of the Times. If anything, it's better. Sugar Crush is less gloopy and fussy than the Essie version, and it's still available. Have you been lusting over Shine of the Times? Give it up and get this instead. It's just as amazing.

trying to capture the shift.

    1. I take almost no credit for it. Amanda did all of the heavy lifting. I just pointed at things and said "this is pretty. Do want." and she made it happen.

    1. I'm not sure. I've never seen it in-stores either, not here anyway. A friend who lives on the east coast sent it to me.
