Lots More Lips

If you've been a PGS reader for a while, this post might look familiar.  I had a lot of fun doing my Lotsa Lips post near the end of last year and I've slowly been accumulating new lip stuff again since.  Most of these are recent-ish releases, but I think they're all core.  I figured Valentine's Day was a great time for a look at my recent lip purchases.  Some of these are different shades from the same lines as stuff in the previous post, but there are two new-to-me products down toward the bottom.  Like last time, I've grouped different shades from the same line together.  Also like last time, I took these photos under a daylight lamp, so the colors may look different than they would in other lighting.  I bought everything in today's post at either CVS or Walgreens.

CoverGirl Smoochies Sizzle Gloss

Date Night

I'm not too impressed by Date Nite.  The shimmer doesn't really show up like I'd hoped it would.  Combined with it being clear, it doesn't really look like much on the lips.  It is shiny, I'll give it that much.  It's got that same super-sweet fruit candy scent that bothered me a bit in the other shades I've tried.

Blind Date

Though it's a light pink in the tube, Blind Date looks almost exactly like Date Night on me.  Barely any shimmer payoff and a sticky-sweet scent.  I might try these two to add shine over other lip colors.  I'm not ready to give up on them, but I want more than just shine, you know?

Gleam On!

Unlike the first two, Gleam On! has a noticeable bit of tint and the shimmer is more obvious than the camera wanted to show.  It's still something I'd let a ten-year-old wear, but I actually feel like I'm wearing something with this on.

Glisten Up!

I'm relieved that Glisten Up! isn't identical to Glow For It! on the lips.  They're similar, but it's got a rosier tint.  The coppery shimmer is strong.  I think it's the same shimmery bits as Glow For It!, but less dense and in a tinted base.  Of the two, I think I like Glisten Up! more, but I haven't worn Glow For It! again since posting that review.  Of the four Sizzle Glosses in this post, Glisten Up! is absolutely my favorite.

Rimmel Show Off (Apocalips) Lip Lacquer

Nude Eclipse

So flattering!  I think I'd call this a 'my lips, but better' color for me.  I can see myself getting a lot of mileage out of Nude Eclipse in the spring.  Unfortunately, it's not as smooth as some of the other Show Offs I've tried.  It's not slightly gritty like Stargazer, but it's not as outstandingly smooth as Big Bang, Light Year, or Galaxy.  It has the same light scent as all Show Offs.

Big Bang

I've wanted my perfect red lip forever and I think I've finally found it!  Only took me, what...fifteen years?  Big Bang is SOOOO red!  I was gonna wear it for my "almost Valentine's" dinner with my partner tomorrow night, but the weather has other plans.  Boo.  I'll have to find another time to wear it...maybe our anniversary next month.  It's got exactly the formula I'd hoped it would, smooth and awesome like Light Year and Galaxy, and the usual scent.  I can't tell you how happy I am that the Show Offs aren't Walgreens exclusives anymore!  (...even happier than I am that they're not UK exclusives anymore.)  If you haven't tried them yet, get on it!  You'll thank me!

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm

Sultry

This is matte?  I mean...kinda, but...only kinda.  I feel like settles into every crease around the edge of my lips.  Hooray for being over 30.  I wore it a couple of months ago and really didn't like it at the time.  Swatching it made me want to give it another chance, but I'm not sure if it's flattering.  I'm sure it would be gorgeous on someone else, but I feel like it might look a bit mature on me.  It felt about the same as Shameless, smooth and not chalky...but it's nowhere near as matte.  Reminds me...I need to actually wear Shameless sometime.

CoverGirl LipPerfection Lipcolor

Ravish

Is "lipstick" a dirty word now or something?  I've seen more than a couple of companies dodge it.  Anyway...  Ravish is considerably pinker than I expected.  I'm not saying I don't like it, it's just not what I expected.  It's got that "makeup smell", if that makes sense.  It feels very good on the lips, creamy, but without sliding.

Seduce

I'm not sure what went wrong, but I had trouble applying Seduce evenly...and once it was on my skin it didn't want to go away.  I think it's a mix of me being incredibly out of practice with lipstick and the "glidey" formula.  The color's nice, but it's lighter than I expected.  I think the packaging just doesn't reflect the product color on these...but maybe that's a fluke and it's just these two.  It's something I'll keep in mind, but I don't think it'll keep me from purchasing other shades.  I'm not blown away by it, but then it's not as perfect on me as the other red in this post.  Like Ravish, it's very smooth and feels great on the lips.

Maybelline Color Elixir

Vision In Violet

I'm not gonna pretend I wasn't seduced by the packaging of this line.  Maybelline's packaging has been eye-catching in general over the past few years, but they've surpassed themselves with these.  I love how they look.  Vision In Violet is just as attention-grabbing on the lips as it is in the tube.  The color payoff is amazing!  The feel of the product is perfect too.  The applicator takes getting used to though...and I obviously haven't yet.  It's kinda huge and a bit awkward.  I think it's one of those things that's supposed to make application easier.  If you've never worn a liquid lipcolor before, it might be, but if you've been using doe's foot-style or brushes for over a decade, not so much.  I wanted to buy a second shade when I bought Vision In Violet (I forget which), but the only tube they had had been tampered with.  Dammit.  If Vision In Violet is any indicator of the quality of this line, I can see myself owning a few more eventually.

Bottom line: My personal favorites are Big Bang, Glisten Up!, and Vision In Violet.  I love the color of Nude Eclipse, but the feel wasn't as smooth as I'd hoped.  I like both of the LipPerfection shades for feel and color payoff, but they're not what I expected based on the packaging colors.  I'm on the fence about Sultry, Gleam On! is ok but very subtle, and I'm outright disappointed in Blind Date and Date Night.

What's the best lipcolor or lipgloss you've tried recently?
