OPI Skyfall And The Spy Who Loved Me

Today I have the third pairing of my picks from OPI's Skyfall collection.  I miss the silly names, but this is a great collection!  On Wednesday I paired Casino Royale and The World Is Not Enough, both with purple-ish undertones.  Live And Let Die and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, cool and deep, were up yesterday.  Today is RED!

The Spy Who Loved Me has gold microfleck shimmer in a bright scarlet jelly base.

The jelly base means it takes three coats to build to near-opacity.  I could still see just a hint of my nail line, but nothing distracting.  The glow completely makes up for it!  It looks like fire!  The sheerness gives it a depth a cream base would lose, and it's dazzling!  In bright light or sunlight it's hypnotic, as the gold sparks flare across the nail.  In lower light it's deep yet bright, vibrant, and radiant.

I don't think it's my favorite (it's a little bright for my personal taste), but this is the star of a stellar collection!  Photos could never do The Spy Who Loves Me justice.  If you EVER wear red, buy it!

Skyfall is a medium maroon cream.

When people ask me what I love about OPI I sometimes give them a two-word answer.  "The creams."  I have a good number of them and they are all exactly what I want from this type of formula.  Skyfall is no different.  It's self-leveling, shines even before the top coat, creamy smooth in application, and perfect in two coats...it's what I know I can expect from OPI and a big part of why I love them.  The color is gorgeous too!  Like Casino Royale, Skyfall is a modern tweak to a classic shade.

In the previous two posts (here and here), I paired shades from this collection in layering combinations.  Skyfall and The Spy Who Loved Me were the two that inspired me to do this, but I had to save the best for last.  I'm sorry, but I need to post too many photos of this.

Four photo really don't get the point across either, but I needed to show it in a variety of lighting.  It's one of my favorite pairings ever and just so xmasy!

Layering The Spy Who Loved Me over Skyfall turns down the brightness and keeps it from looking too orange, but without losing any of its amazing depth or glow.  It reminds me a little of Smitten With Mittens.  It doesn't quite dupe it, because Smitten has larger flecks that are more obviously gold...but it's similar.  You can probably get both The Spy Who Loved Me and Skyfall for less than Smitten With Mittens too, so it might satisfy a lemming.

I stared at it all day...and then I mattified it and fell in love again!

Again, if you EVER wear red, you need The Spy Who Loved Me!  You also need it if you love layering, though when I tried it over black it didn't quite work.  I'll be layering it again, maybe over purple.  I loved it on its own, but layering took it to a whole new place!  Skyfall is a must-have if you love OPI creams or if the other offerings in the trendy oxblood range of shades were too dark for you.

I'm not *quite* done with the Skyfall collection yet.  You'll see a little more of them soon.  I do have one more pick....

  1. "The Spy Who Loved Me" looks really similar to "Never Lon-done Shopping", except maybe it's a little more transparent. Very pretty though!
