Look of The Day: Eight Product Challenge

A while back, I decided to challenge a few friends to a very limiting challenge: eight products only. It may seem like a lot, but it's really not that much when it comes down to a full face of makeup. Often times, you can get to eight products on your eyes alone. Though I did allow primer and setting sprays to be used...because no one wants slippy and creasy makeup.

It was sort-of an exercise in minimalism, for people who tend to go "all the way" with makeup every time. This would also be handy to try if you like the "no makeup" makeup look. It is impossible to look super made up, even if you pick some very out-there colors (which is actually not a bad idea...). Challenges like this also remind you of the multitasking properties of makeup. I used Nyx Taupe blush as a contour product and as an eyeshadow. (Though I think my contour got away from me. I haven't used Taupe for contour in a while.) I also used the UD Revolution lipstick as a lip and cheek product.

Products Used:

Urban Decay eyeshadow in Sin
Nyx Blush in Taupe
Starlooks Kohl Liner in Obsidian
Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ebony
Urban Decay Naked Skin in 01
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Naked
YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch highlighter in 2/Luminous Ivory
Maybelline Clump Crusher Mascara in Blackest Black
(primers: Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Youngblood Mineral Primer)

I wish my skin looked this good in reality

four eyes!

my contour got away from me, but I think it looks ok.

As an aside, I think I'm getting better at this "no makeup" makeup business. I posted this way back in April, and it was my go-to look for most days. I think this is decidedly better.

    1. ya think? I'm not sure how well my bumbling, curse-filled makeup application would go over with the world at large ;)

    2. Yeah! It would be fun. I know I would have to give it a try. I love the look. And honestly watching a little "bumble" would be refreshing. Every time I watch a tutorial where the application is flawless I pretty much just want to give up.

And only 8 products would be a tutorial that people could actually follow. Make up tutorials with 12+ products can be so hard to follow just in expense of getting them or not getting them and then the look doesn't turn out right anyway.

    3. Then I may give it a go. I should have some uninterupted time coming up...husband can handle the monsters for a bit!

  3. Wow! What a change between April and now. Never thought of multi-purposing products like you did with the blush -- it's an easy way to make a look "tie" together!

    1. It was the first time I tried it, as well. I must admit, I almost like the lipstick *better* as a blush!
