Slimdown Saturday: I Mean It This Time

Note- This feature touches on a lot of issues for me and may include what you consider TMI, whether physical or emotional.  Harassing comments will be deleted.

It's been a stupidly long time since I wrote one of these and you can tell by looking at me (which we'll do in a moment) that I haven't been good about food.  I heard the word "yo-yo" from friends and relatives more than a couple of times over the holidays.  When a problem is so obvious that people can come right out and say it, it's time to get serious.  I'm terrible about staying serious, that's the problem.  I can lose weight pretty easily, it's keeping it off that's damn near impossible.  I know I'm far from alone in this.

So here we are, it's 2014 and I'm....*wince*....back up to 221.  Dammit.

Meh.

I don't hate how I look (camera adds, it really does), but I feel big and heavy.  My joints hurt again and I'm having reflux and other stomach issues that I all but stop getting when my weight is under control.

Control's the right word.  I completely lose it when I'm not tracking what I eat.  I've gained 20lbs since October!  It's almost like anti-dieting, or seeing how bad I can be.  It scares me a bit and causes regret and stress that I really don't need in my life anymore.  I'm trying...again...to put it behind me.

So this time around Slimdown Saturday will be more of a healthy eating and weight loss journal...and I won't be alone!  Nichole has said she'll start next week!  The more support, the better!

Now that I have a phone that takes reasonably decent photos, I'm also going to highlight a meal each week and explain why I chose it.  It's easy this week, since I've only had one actual meal since starting up again at midnight.  I'm a grazer by nature and I don't do well when I try to change that.  I do best when I nibble here and there and have only one or two meals a day.  I'd had a couple of bananas, some applesauce (no sugar added), and a clementine orange over the course of about eight hours and then slept.  I had a TON of points left, so I decided I needed a sensible "splurge" as my meal of the day.  I wound up with a fried egg sandwich and pickles.

Pickles are 0 points, but they're salty, so I try not to go completely overboard with them.  Salt makes me bloat, so I have to watch it.  I used two whole eggs (2 points each), and real cheese (3 points) as a compromise for using a Sandwich Thin roll (3 points).  I logged it as 10 points, though I realize now I should probably have logged the ketchup too.  I used a lot of ketchup, and that stuff's full of corn syrup.  What isn't these days?  Ugh.

I still have plenty of points left, so I have to figure out something nice for "breakfast" when I get to work at 11pm.  Back when I used to actually go to Weight Watchers meetings I remember them advising us that the points are there to be used.  Under-eating isn't healthy and can lead to over-eating if you've got issues with it...like I do.  So...I'll have to find something tasty to use up the remainder for the day.  Hmm...

...but that's exactly what I love about this kind of plan.  You know just what you can "afford" to eat and when you can splurge...or not.  I'm going into this with my usual gung-ho dieting optimism, but I also know that it's going to be a challenge.  I have to meet it this time.  I have to!  I can do this!

  1. You can do it! I was actually delighted when I saw 214 on the scale yesterday. I'll take my little victories where I can - 1 ounce at a time!
