Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Fluid

It seems like the search for the "Holy Grail" foundation is never ending. Even when you find something you love, you keep looking. Hey, there might be an even better one right around the corner! One that lasts a little longer, covers a bit more, costs a little less. Ugh. it's exhausting. But the search goes on, and today I'm going to talk about Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Fluid.

Price: $45 for 1oz
Number of shades: 11 shades, though deeper skin tones seem to be out of luck
Where to buy: Chanel.com or any department store with a Chanel counter.
Good for: I think that this would be good for dry/flaky skin that has a pinkish tone.
Formula: water based liquid. It needs a good shake before use.
Fragrance: pretty significant. It definitely smells like a Chanel product.
SPF: yes
Would I recommend it: Yes, with caveats.

I've actually had this for about six months, though I don't wear it as often as I should. It is really a nice foundation, and pretty affordable for a luxury brand like Chanel. There is no denying that wearing Chanel makes me feel quite fancy. I know it's silly, but come on. Everyone needs a luxury vice. Mine is Chanel...always has been.

What I like about this foundation
This stuff is really light, in finish and feel. It is great for days when my skin is actually behaving itself, but I still need a little evening out. My skin always looks like skin when I wear this stuff, even across my nose. The best part is that my freckles actually shine through completely somehow, which is always a challenge. The color is a damned good match, which adds to the "hey it looks like my face" effect. It blends easily with my Beauty Blender, and doesn't cake up when doing the Wayne Goss method. It leaves me with a glowing, natural finish that is damned easy to wear. It also lasts an amazingly long time, for such a sheer base. The first time I tried this, it was applied on my bare skin (without primer or setting powder) and lasted 10+ hours. No creasing, movement, weirdness, nothing. I was definitely impressed.

What I don't like about this foundation
The fragrance is strong with this one. There is no doubt that this is a Chanel product. It smells like Chanel...which can often veer into "granny" territory. The undertones of this particular shade are very pink, which is ok for someone with fair pink skin, but if you are like me and have pink and yellow...it can make you look a little too rosy. The foundation is sheer enough that it isn't obvious, but I am afraid if I added another layer it would be omgpinkface. The last little thing is something I am ambivalent about. The glow. This stuff is glowy. VERY glowy. I am a child of the 90's, so I naturally gravitate towards matte finishes when it comes to skin. This stuff can go from "dewy" to "oily" very quickly, even when set with powder. I generally keep blotting papers handy when using this stuff. I would not recommend it for hot climates, unless you like shiny. I personally do not like shiny, and hate that it needs tinkering throughout the day.

my nose almost looks like its covered in skin!
If you are in the market for a lightweight foundation, have a pinky undertone to your skin, have dryer or combo skin, and want to keep the price under $50, I think this is the foundation for you. It is most definitely worth a shot. It does seem pricey, but my other favorite foundation is $39 for an ounce...so it isn't too absurd. Have you tried this foundation? What do you think of the "dewy" face?
