Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics: Black Dahlia Duo

I am a sucker for a good sale. I can't help it. Especially when its something I really love...I lose all self-control. So when I saw the Lip Tar + polish duos on sale for $15...you know what I had to do. I grabbed this one and Anime. Yes...I needed both of them. Hush you.

The polish isn't half bad. But as we saw a week or two ago, it ain't exactly unique. I generally love the OCC polishes, but this one was not completely fabulous. I definitely needed two full coats to cover the draggy spots. But the color is amazing, and exactly what I think of when I imagine a "black dahlia".  Definitely going to be in my rotation for Fall.

This duo is nothing without the Lip Tar. Although I had previously swatched it, I decided to show my whole face this time. I also think my particular tube is a bit off. It smells like crayons, and seems separated. In order to apply it, I had to use a much larger amount than normal and mix it up. Is this normal for this color, or did I just get a wonky tube? Is this why these sets are on sale? Who knows? All I know is that this particular tube (and maybe shade?) should not be your first Lip Tar.

It applied patchy, and grabbed onto the remnants of the lip treatment I had on prior to application (which I use with every other lip tar with no issues). I tried to blot and layer, but to no avail. It's a shame, because it is a pretty color. No where near a dupe for the polish...sadly. I would love to have a deep red-brown shade like that.

  1. I love the slight red tint it gives to the nails!

  2. I'd say you got a wonky tube . . . Mimi (Makeup Withdrawal) posted about Black Dahlia today, and hers definitely looks darker and she didn't mention any application issues. http://www.makeupwithdrawal.com/2014/09/glossybox-september-sneak-peek-occ-lip.html#more

    1. I think I did :( I don't want to return it because the duos are all sold out. I also didn't apply it near as thickly as she did. I applied it like every other lip tar.

      feh.
